Jakarta, January 21, 2025 — Cendekia Iklim Indonesia (CII), in collaboration with the Koalisi Ekonomi Membumi (KEM), hosted a workshop titled Strategi Pengembangan Komoditas Lestari Daerah: Komitmen terhadap Pembangunan Berkelanjutan. The workshop highlighted systemic issues facing Indonesian regions, including economic inequality, deforestation, land degradation, and reliance on central government transfers. With over 20% of Indonesia’s population still living below the poverty line in certain areas (2020–2024 data), CII emphasized the urgency of transitioning to sustainable commodity models. These models aim to balance economic productivity with ecological recovery, ensuring long-term prosperity for communities.
CII unveiled data-driven methodologies to identify and develop high-potential sustainable commodities, such as certified coffee, organic cocoa, and tengkawang (a native tree species valued for its oil and timber). Using criteria like ecosystem restoration, social inclusion, market potential, and economic viability, CII demonstrated how regions can prioritize commodities that align with global sustainability trends.
Economic modeling presented at the workshop revealed that adopting restorative practices could boost regional Gross Domestic Product (GRDP) growth to 7.45% annually by 2045, compared to a baseline of 4.82%. Additionally, Regional Original Revenue (ROR) from
sustainable sectors like eco-tourism and certified agriculture is projected to rise by 2.1% per year, driven by taxes and retributions.
